Faith Development Committees
Below are a lists of some of our awesome church groups and ministries
Since 1887, First Presbyterian Church MVNY has provided the community with all the tools, wisdom, and resources they need to keep them grounded. Our Faith Development Programs was established with an aim to offer congregants the chance to give back to the community. Each of our ministries is as strong as a family and bring congregants closer together.
Christian Education
Learning to Give Back
Christian Education's theme is "A family that prays together and plays together, stays together." All that we do aims to bring the Word of God alive to children and create opportunities for families to bond in Christ. On Sundays, we start the day with breakfast from 9:00 - 9:45. At 9:45 students gather for Assembly, where they get a brief introduction to the lesson for the day and then head to age-level classes. Class runs from 10 am - 10:50 am and then students head into the Sanctuary for service. Every third Sunday is Youth Sunday, where the youth lead the service and give a short presentation on their learning. Christian Ed hosts classes from Nursery through Adult and follows the Presbyterian Lectionary Calendar. The family arm of CE is family movie night on the first Sunday of every month after service and various "special events" on the third Sunday. Some of these events include an Ice Cream Social, Bible Bingo, Easter Rock & Roll and others. During the summer, we host Vacation Bible School which is a great time of fellowship and worship for all ages. We love serving our awesome God through this ministry and are thankful for all the blessings thus far!

Stewardship Committee
Stewardship looks at three ways (a Triangle) members can support the church – 1. Time, 2. Talent, and 3. Treasures. Stewardship’s main goal is to assist the church to reach its financial goals by using Time, Talent and Treasure as our framework. Most of the time a Stewardship Committee will pay attention to just the Treasures’ portion of the Triangle. But we know that to be effective we have to take into account the Talents of our members and the time they have to devote to those talents. A church is only as strong as the amount of involved members Because Tithing is an important part of the Triangle, the mission of the committee is to reach out to members and friends of the church to realize the connection between tiding and their relationship to God. We don’t want members to look at Tiding as just “us giving to the church to offer financial assistance”. We want them to look at it as, “The Lord has been good to me and I want to show my love and appreciation by giving to support his church.” If we can get the members to give of their Time, their Talents and their Treasures, then the church is healthy and prospering.
Shepherds
The goal of the Shepherds Committee is to provide a caring pastoral relationship with our congregation through the division of members into groups according to their birthday month. Each month strives to have 1-2 “Shepherds” to maintain contact with and support the spiritual life of our members. Meetings are held monthly and in June we started using conference calling as an option for those Shepherds that could not physically attend monthly meetings.
There are 5 main components of Shepherding at First Presbyterian Church: Quarterly birthday celebrations, Simply Abundant Health program, individual outreach through written/email/ text and phone contacts, weekly Prayer meetings (which utilize a call in conference number for participants not able to join prayer in person) and collaboration with other committees for special events.
