Reverend Dr. Betty Tom

About Our Pastor

Betty Jean Tom was born and raised in Indianapolis, Indiana. Rev. Dr. Tom hails from a large, close-knit family of 8 living siblings and a host of nieces, nephews and cousins.

Rev. Dr. Tom professed a saving hope in Jesus Christ and was baptized at the age of 12 while growing up in the New Liberty Baptist Church. Rev. Dr. Tom grew up serving in the church in various capacities and believes that she was, “born to serve God.”
The benchmarks of Rev. Dr. Tom's ministry are her love for prayer, praise and worship, and the study of God’s Word. The scripture that best informs Rev. Dr. Tom's ministry is Colossians 3:17,  “and whatever you do in word or deed do everything in the name of the Lord Jesus, giving thanks to God the Gather through Him.”

Rev. Dr. Tom, formerly a teacher and school counselor in the Indianapolis Public School and Warren Township School district for 21 years, holds a Masters of Divinity from Christian Theological Seminary, Indianapolis, IN (2003); a M.S. in Education from Butler University, Indianapolis, IN (1986); and a B.S. From Ball State University, Muncie, IN (1978).

Presently, Rev. Dr. Betty J. Tom is the called Pastor of FPC. She is delighted that God has called her to serve in the Mt. Vernon community.

Rev. Dr. Tom is a lifelong learner and is presently a Doctor of Ministy from McCormick Theological Seminary in Chicago, IL. Rev. Dr. Tom is a philanthropist, as well as, an avid Pacer and Colts fan. She enjoys reading, writing, good jazz music, Zumba, water aerobic swimming, and books on prayer, 

Rev. Dr. Tom is the proud mother of 4 sons; Ronald (40) of Indianapolis, IN; Nathan (30) of Bladensburg, MD; Jared (25) of Boca Raton, FL; Aaron (22) of Muncie, IN.
